Catherine Raiche leaving Toronto Argonauts for XFL

Sources say Catherine Raiche is set to join the Tampa Bay XFL franchise in a front office.

Raiche resigned from the Alouettes in late 2017 and accepted the director, football administration position with the Argonauts. She had been granted permission to pursue other opportunities in advance of leaving Montreal.

When Kavis Reed replaced Popp as Alouettes general manager before the 2017 season, he promoted Raiche to assistant general manager responsible for daily operations, managing the salary cap, determining the value of players and handling contractual duties.

Raiche was the first female assistant general manager in the CFL since 1988 when Jo-Anne Polak held that position with the Ottawa Rough Riders. Polak it’s believed was the first woman to hold that job title in any pro sports franchise across North America. Raiche has gone on the record stating that her goal is to be a general manager one day.

Raiche made waves in the football world by rising to the assistant GM position in Montreal and now her pro football management career has led to the XFL Tampa Bay franchise.

Redblacks OC Jaime Elizondo headed to XFL Tampa Bay Franchise

The Ottawa Redblacks announced Monday offensive coordinator Jaime Elizondo has left the team to pursue other opportunities.

According to a report from 3DownNation.com’s Justin Dunk, Elizondo plans to take a job in the XFL with the Tampa Bay franchise, who recently hired Marc Trestman as head coach.

Elizondo served as the Redblacks’ offensive coordinator the past three seasons. He was reportedly a head coaching candidate for both the Toronto Argonauts and BC Lions this off-season while the Redblacks denied the Saskatchewan Roughriders permission to interview him after Chris Jones left for the Cleveland Browns late in the off-season.

Manziel banned from CFL… Exploring options in United States

Today the CFL posted on twitter that Johnny Manziel was released from the Montreal Alouettes and banned from signing another contract with any other CFL teams. The reason given was vague saying he “contravened the agreement which made him eligible to play” in the Canadian Football League.

Manziel has since commented on the subject thanking his former teammates and coach, specifically mentioning exploring his options in the United States. I think it’s very doubtful that he lands another gig in the NFL, but that leaves the AAF, AFL and XFL. Due to his past legal issues it seems that it is likely that he lands in the XFL, although in more recent interviews with Oliver Luck it seems the company may have backed off that stance. We’ll need to see what happens in the upcoming months.

Betting odds have started to come out on where Manziel will end up next, with the Alliance being the favorite. According to OddShark, this is what the odds look like at the moment:

AAF -275
XFL +600
AFL or IFL +600
CIF, NAL or AAL +850
NFL +1200

This may be due in part to the fact that it’s being reported that Manziel’s agent also made the following statement saying “Johnny decided to end his contract with the CFL. Johnny did not break any laws or violations, he is just more interested in playing in the AAF and a more “NFL” style of football to better his chances of playing in the NFL”

According to Johnny Football himself, this is not true. But, that is exactly what he would say if it were true…. Only time will tell, and we will probably know more sooner rather than later.

[UPDATE] Former CFL player, Courtel Jenkins (NOT) headed to the XFL

[UPDATE] XFL2k.com has spoken with Coach Pimmel of the St. Louis Stampede. He has let us know that this has been a complete misunderstanding and Courtel has not been in contact with any other organizations at this time.

The official Facebook page of the National Gridiron Leage’s Saint Louis Stampede posted that recent DT recruit, Courtel Jenkins, who originally signed with The Stampede was invited to join a paid training camp with the XFL.

This is the first news of any players joining the XFL, so I assume we should be seeing a lot more of these announcements in the near future. We may not make announcements on all, but seeing as this is the first we felt is was necessary to do so.

Courtel played for both University of Miami and the University of Houston before he played in the CFL for the B.C. Lions.
