The XFL Summer Showcase events have been pretty standard so far. 100 players; 50 offensive and 50 defensive. Recently we reported that the XFL Los Angeles was the first Showcase to have kickers and punters in attendance.

Well, now XFL DC Personnel Director, Greg Gabriel, has noted that the XFL Tampa Bay Summer Showcase will be the largest so far. This weekends event will host nearly 150 players. This is what I like to see, keep the momentum going and ramp up on the scouting.

Tomorrow I leave for Tampa for the XFL Tampa Bay Showcase on Saturday. It will be the largest Showcase to date with close to 150 players working out for XFL coaches and scouts

Yesterday we learned that Dynomite Kuhn would be joining XFL Houston as Director of Football Operations, today DC has some news for us. According to Brad Briggs of the Chicago Tribune, Greg Gabriel will be joining the Washington DC franchise as Personnel Director.

A 28-year veteran in pro personnel, Gabriel worked 16 seasons in the New York Giants scouting department, one with national scouting, and two more years part-time with the Buffalo Bills, and most recently College Scouting Director for the Chicago Bears.

With Gabriel leading the college scouting, the Bears hit on several players, including Pro Bowlers Lance Briggs, Tommie Harris, Devin Hester, Johnny Knox and Nathan Vasher. During Gabriel’s first seven drafts with Chicago, the Bears selected 16 players who started at least one game for the Bears in 2008.
