It wasn’t too long ago that we saw Trent Richardson attend the XFL Summer Showcase in St. Louis. It seems that the XFL isn’t the only league that has interest in the former AAF star. In an interview with the Pensacola News Journal’s Eric J. Wallace on Tuesday, Richardson revealed that he has received interest from both the NFL and the XFL after the AAF folded earlier this year:

“I’ve gotten a few phone calls, but you never know about the NFL. Hopefully I put enough out there to show I can still move and play. I’m doing this for myself and my kids.

“A lot of people have been calling me. The XFL has been calling me. The NFL has been calling me…. The opportunity is there and if the NFL doesn’t come through, then definitely (I’d pursue XFL).”

Richardson finished his time in the AAF’s short existence as arguably the most productive player with the most rushes per game, and had a league best 12 total touchdowns. This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen a former AAF player/Summer Showcase attendee receive interest from the NFL. We reported earlier that former Birmingham Iron QB, Luis Perez has also had interest from the Carolina Panthers.

These are just a small sample of the types of posts that were being shared around after the missed pass interference call, and throughout the Patriots/Chiefs game. A lot of which used much more course language than the ones posted above.

Last nights set of Championship games could be the greatest gift the XFL could ask for. One of the key focus areas for the XFL is Less Stall, More Ball. With goals of having less than 10 penalties per game and bringing the amount of time the refs administer the penalties down to 15 seconds and a total game time under 3 hours. There are also rumors that the XFL will use a shorter play clock. All of these items come into play, if the XFL can keep the momentum and push this as a major talking point for next season, I think we could see a lot of NFL fans scorned by the refs jumping to the XFL (I’m looking at you Lion’s fans).

Oliver Luck has stated in multiple interviews they plan on announcing their TV deal within the next few weeks, which lines up perfectly with Super Bowl Sunday. I’m not saying that the XFL should get a Super Bowl ad, but the timing of these announcement could benefit them immensely. I expect some type of an announcement, whether it be a TV deal or something else to occur on or the day after the Super Bowl. Only time will tell, but the second we hear anything you will definitely be able to find it at XFL2k.com

In a recent interview on ESPN Radio in Seattle. XFL commissioner Oliver Luck stated that he has had discussions with NFL teams. He contacted each team and the league before The XFL awarded their 8 teams to New York, Los Angeles, Tampa, St.Louis, Houston, Dallas, Washington and of course Seattle.

Oliver Luck stated that he had a discussion with his good friend Seahawk President/GM John Schneider. Schneider told Luck how much the league misses NFL Europe. Luck says that all the NFL personnel workers say the same thing to him. Luck ran NFL Europe in the 90’s. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll also went on record recently stating that he is excited about the XFL and the opportunity it can give to players. The XFL figures to employ 500 pro football players.

In the interview, Luck reiterated that The XFL is not and has no intention to be a developmental league for the NFL but that he understands that any pro football league that isn’t the NFL, is by default a developmental league for them.
