XFL to hold Press Conference March 5th at Raymond James Stadium

Stephan Rachuk — Fri, 01 Mar 2019 17:35:38 +0000

It was just announced that the XFL will hold a Press Conference March 5th at Raymond James Stadium to announce their first Head Coach and General Manager.

I had speculated that Tampa would be next up on the press circuit due to the fact that it was just leaked that Raymond James will host Wrestlemania next year. The press conference starts at 11am EST. The only other name that is rumored to be Head Coach is Haslett, but I don’t think that’s who we’re going to see next week.

I have some thoughts and have heard some chatter, but nothing solid enough to report on. We may have to Leavitt up to fate, but we’ll let you know when we have more information.

Stephan Rachuk — Mon, 25 Feb 2019 21:05:59 +0000

The day has finally come for all XFL Seattle fans, the suspense has come to an end. Today at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, former Seahawk QB and Red Skins Coach, Jim Zorn was announced to be the first Head Coach/GM of the XFL Seattle franchise.

Zorn is a former player and coach in the National Football League. He was a left-handed quarterback, and is best known as the starting quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks for their first eight seasons. He was the quarterbacks coach for the Seahawks from 2001 until the 2007 season, before being hired by the Washington Redskins to be their head coach starting in the 2008 season.

Shortly after being fired following the 2009 season, Zorn was hired as quarterbacks coach of the Baltimore Ravens. Zorn was released as quarterbacks coach of the Ravens on January 27, 2011, and then joined the Kansas City Chiefs as their new quarterbacks coach for the 2011 season.

The official Twitter account of the XFL confirmed Zorn as the latest hire with the following Tweet:

XFL CEO and Commissioner came out and gave a brief update on the XFL, basically saying what the same things he touched on last week in DC, mentioning locations, venues, financial-backing among others.

On Zorn, Luck said he is exactly what you think of when you hear Quarterback. He knew when they were choosing Seattle, Zorn was the only phone call he needed to make. Luck mentioned that Zorn is the last person that needs to be introduced to the people of Seattle (due to his years as QB of the Seahawks). “I watched Jim Zorn play for the Seahawks, an expansion franchise, and I was totally captivated with his style of play. He was innovative. He was creative. He did all those things as a player that we want to do as a league.”, said Luck.

Jim Zorn then came out and thanked Oliver Luck and the crowd. He joked that he took the job because Oliver promised him first shot at Andrew Luck. Zorn spoke about his thoughts on Vince McMahon, and after his initial shock he was excited by McMahon’s vision. He’s excited to think through the new techniques that will be utilized because of the rule changes.

He likes that the league is creating more opportunities for the younger players and more experienced coaches and staff to show that they’re made of. He praised the new XFL for the people that they’ve hire so far, and is happy to be apart of this team.

Zorn again joked that XFL Seattle already has eight season ticket holders, which drew laughs from the crowd. Also mentioning that he was the third player ever to be signed by the Seahawks and is glad to be back in Seattle.

Zorn hopes to hire people that can build a franchise quickly, and competitively. He’s excited to get to work and he again thanks everyone for their support.

Honestly, one of the better press conferences due to Zorn’s added humor, you can watch the full thing below:

Today’s press conference was a bit shorter than the one we had in Dallas, but let’s go through everything that happened.

First DC Events Board Member, Ty Simpson, came out to talk about the local area and how it’s a perfect fit for the XFL. He mentioned that they had done they due diligence before submitting themselves as a potential location. Simpson went on to say that when they look at bring an organization into their city they want to make sure that it will be an established family friendly environment. He also praised Vince McMahon and Oliver Luck on the progress they’ve made so far.

Oliver Luck then came out and gave a brief update on the state of the XFL. The most notable of which is that he once again confirmed that TV deals should be announced soon. He also said that four games will be televised weekly. Two on over the air terrestrial television, and two on cable, which he iterated would be networks that are easy to find and known and respected by sports fans. We previously reported that the XFL was in talks with ABC/ESPN and Fox/FS1, which align perfectly with what he is saying.

Luck then went on to talk a bit about Pep Hamilton. He brought up that Hamilton has over a decade of coaching experience. Specifically bringing up the Jets, Colts, 49ers, Stanford and Michigan, where he was most recently Assistant Coach to Jim Harbaugh. Luck then spoke about Hamilton’s career at Howard University down the road from Audi Field. He touched on his on-hands experience with Quarterbacks, naming Jay Cutler, Brian Greese and even his son Andrew Luck. At that time he then welcomed Pep Hamilton to the XFL and invited him on stage.

Pep came out and first thanked his Wife and family back in Michgan, then thanks all his friends and family that came out from Howard University to support him. Hamilton said he was intrigued by the XFL once he heard that Oliver Luck had been named the CEO and Commissioner ,stating that Luck has the know-how needed to jump start a league. He also said that Luck he had the Midas touch in regards to how he raised his children.

Because of Luck’s role with the XFL, his decision was easy to make. He loved the idea that he was able to take on such a challenge of not only building a team from the ground-up, but also working with the community to make the fan experience enjoyable.

Hamilton then stated he would be looking for people like himself why building the team, and more importantly building the league. He wants to find people that have the same passion for football as he shares, and wants to find players that are able to think outside of the box.

That was about it for this press conference, but it sounds like we’re going to get another one next week in Seattle, and possible one each week afterwards. Word on the Streets is that it’s going to be Jim Zorn, so far we’re two for two, hopefully next week we can extend our record. Regardless, by the end of March we should know all of the coaches in the league.
